Event Details
As therapists, we often see ourselves as facilitators of change, driven by a desire to help clients work toward growth, development, and change in their lives…but what does it mean for clients when they consider, and go through, change?
Drawing on the teachings of Emmy van Deurzen, Irvin Yalom, and Ernesto Spinelli, licensed counsellor and mindfulness author, Sandy Clarke, will explore questions of change – and therapist’s assumptions – when working with clients.
What do we mean by “change”? What message does it send to clients when we push for them to change…and what might it communicate about who we are as therapists? Join us to explore these questions and more.
You’ll learn to…
- Describe different types of change through the lens of existential therapy
- Understand “resistance” from an existential perspective
- Explore change with clients from a relational point of view
- Help clients understand and navigate ambivalence as a key ingredient of leaning toward and accepting change
